AAHI-SBC is a collaborative of diverse community stakeholders sharing a common vision. We are everyday people, local residents, healthcare providers, health professionals, community-based organizations, business men and women, faith-based leaders and members, educators, researchers, physicians, and many, many other concerned people. The AAHI-SBC was incorporated by the State of California as a 501(c)(3) Public Service Organization on January 3, 2006. Our goal is to organize the community and work together in a strategic systematic manner to improve the overall well-being of Black Americans of African ancestry, as well as other poor, underserved and under-represented people.
AAHI-SBC meets monthly to provide a regular public forum for people to come together to discuss and strategically plan to improve health, work together on projects, programs and activities. Also, to actively change our environment, fight for social justice and equality for all. Additionally, we work on various issues that are important to Black people, as well as under-represented individuals. Our meetings provide the opportunity for networking and developing partnerships with others on similar projects, programs and issues. We meet at the Medical Office Building, on the grounds of the Community Hospital of San Bernardino, located at 1800 Western Avenue, 4th Floor Solarium Room, San Bernardino, CA 92411. We meet at 8:00 am the 2nd Friday morning of each month.
Join us! All are welcome to attend, become involved and to get help with areas of interest.
Please, continue to browse our web site. Visit our community partners. View our photo gallery. You will see intense interactions, serious discussions and planning meetings, community activities of our partners, and above all a dedication to working strategically to improve our conditions. Take time to view our 9-Recommendations we developed to improve the health of our local Black population and our 6-Point Action Agenda to implement the recommendations. Read the comprehensive 147-page report called Voices of the People: An Afrocentric Plan for Better Health. This report gives a brief history of our early beginnings and details the results of our countywide health planning project.
AAHI-SBC organizational oversight is maintained by a 9-member Board of Directors. Visit their page and meet the members, as well as staff. AAHI-SBC provides four core activities: community capacity building, health education, policy advocacy, and ethnic centered research and evaluation. Our community participatory process and core activities have been funded by generous gifts from private donors, as well as grants from The California Endowment, The California Wellness, Loma Linda University Center for Health Research, NIH/Loma Linda University Center for Health Disparities Research and Molecular Medicine; contracts with the St. Joseph Health System/St. Mary Medical Center, and the Morehouse School of Medicine; and numerous in-kind donations, such as the Community Hospital of San Bernardino for providing office space and meeting facilities. Thank you all!
We are delighted you made a visit to our web site, and please, join us on the second Friday of each month.
Live well and be happy!
